Lesson 1 — Setting up

On-boarding and module navigation. Understand APC Competency Levels and how RICS expects you to demonstrate competency at each Level. Case Study Introduction/Review What Is the APC Case Study? The importance in selecting your case study topic.This is the biggest early decision candidates make — and the most commonly misunderstood.

Lesson 2 — Accountability

Level 1: Understand professional obligations, personal responsibility, and liability.

Level 2: Apply accountability principles — taking ownership of decisions and outcomes in your work.

Lesson 3 — Communication and negotiation

Level 1: Understand different communication methods and negotiation techniques.

Level 2: Use effective oral and written communication, and carry out negotiations with stakeholders.

Lesson 4 — Client care

Level 1: Understand the importance of identifying client requirements and providing appropriate services.

Level 2: Deliver effective client service — establish and maintain productive client relationships.

Lesson 5 — Health and safety

Level 1: Know legal and regulatory frameworks, policies, and procedures for health and safety.

Level 2: Apply these standards in practice — identify risks and implement safe systems of work.

Lesson 6 — Professional ethics and conduct

Level 1: Understand RICS Rules of Conduct and ethical principles.

Level 2: Apply them — demonstrate integrity, fairness, and objectivity in professional practice.

Level 3: Reasoned advice (Lead + Decide) — demonstrate independent, evidence-based, professional advice.

Lesson 7 — Sustainability

Level 1: Understand sustainable development principles and their relevance to the built environment.

Level 2: Apply sustainability considerations to projects, policies, and decision-making.

Level 1: Understand team roles, responsibilities, and dynamics.

Level 2: Contribute effectively to teams — collaborate, share information, and support others.

Level 1: Understand equality, diversity, and inclusion principles.

Level 2: Demonstrate inclusive behaviour and promote diversity within teams and projects.

Lesson 10 — Conflict avoidance, management & dispute resolution

Level 1: Know common causes of conflict and basic resolution procedures.

Level 2: Apply conflict-avoidance or resolution techniques in real or simulated professional situations.

Level 1: Understand principles of data collection, storage, analysis, and security.

Level 2: Apply effective data management systems — ensure data quality and compliance.
